Avoid these 6 deadly nutrition lie

As much as I would love to say otherwise, our current state of health in the US is downright alarming.

If you doubt what I’m saying, consider these grim statistics:

  • 2 out of 3 of us are overweight or obese
  • 7 out of 10 people regularly take at least one prescription medication
  • More than half of us take two prescription medications, and 20% (1 out of 5) of Americans are on at least FIVE prescription medications
  • Chronic inflammatory disease rates continue to go through the roof, and these conditions are now affecting young and old alike—we’re not talking just “old age arthritis” anymore

Why would that be?

After all, there have been tremendous advances in diagnostic tests and surgeries, and of course a plethora of drugs being researched and developed every single day.

So why are we so darn sickly?

Well, my friend, it’s because our current healthcare system focuses on anything BUT health.

Its focus is on the treatment of sickness and disease once they occur—so “healthcare” should really be called “sick care.”

And until that focus changes to sickness and disease prevention and the creation of true health, you can bet those statistics I quoted above are going to get worse and worse.

Now, when you’re talking about encouraging great health and preventing disease, there are a lot of factors that come into play—quitting smoking, not drinking alcohol to excess, getting regular exercise and reducing stress—but far and away, the number one factor is FOOD.

Nothing dictates whether you will be fat or thin, medicated or not, or healthy or diseased more than your diet.

What complicates this situation even more is that the average person is inundated with volumes of worthless dietary advice coming at them in all directions…to the point where they don’t know what to believe!

And it makes a big difference depending on who’s doing the talking too.

You see, when you’re being given “healthy” diet advice by a source that is either completely ignorant to the principles of proper nutrition, or is somehow tied to a food company or pharmaceutical company, you can bet the advice will be appropriately slanted.

Heaven help you at that point.

But today is your lucky day. 

Because I’m going to clue you in on six examples of “healthy diet advice” that are not only completely wrong, but are downright harmful and are major contributors to our fat, sick, medicated existence.

Then I will give you straightforward advice on how to help create real health from within that you can take to the bank!

First let’s start with what NOT to believe—otherwise known as:

The Six Deadly Nutrition Lies

1. Saturated fats harm your heart

Saturated fats are needed by your body to protect your nerve cells, produce hormones, keep your cell membranes healthy, help your body assimilate the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K and help your brain and nervous system with transmitting nerve impulses.

And get this–the fat that surrounds your heart and that your heart draws upon in times of stress is…

Saturated fat!

The truth is the average person needs about 30% of their daily calories to come from fats, and about one-third of those should be saturated fats.

Good sources of saturated fats include fats from animal sources (meat, butter, lard, suet, milk, eggs and cheese)–preferably organic, as well as avocados.

2. All sugars are created equal and are OK in moderation

This is the ploy that food companies use to justify using the legalized poison called high fructose corn syrup in their products.

Here’s the fact:  Fructose and glucose are NOT metabolized by your body in the same way.

Every cell in your body utilizes glucose, so much of what you take in can be burned up (if you’re active enough).

But fructose, on the other hand, is turned into free fatty acids (FFAs) and triglycerides which get stored as FAT.

When you eat 120 calories of glucose, less than one calorie is stored as fat. But 120 calories of fructose results in 40 calories being stored as fat!

Plus your liver must metabolize fructose, which puts a tremendous strain on it and creates waste products such as uric acid, which drives up blood pressure and causes gout.

3. Cholesterol clogs arteries

Cholesterol is a health-enhancing substance that your body NEEDS to stay healthy. 

It’s a potent antioxidant, it’s needed by your liver to make bile and it helps protect you against depression.

Plus it repairs tears in your blood vessels, it’s vital for your brain and nervous system to function properly and it helps your body manufacture Vitamin D. 

The real culprit behind clogged arteries is chronic inflammation in your blood vessels (which is a direct result of an acid-forming diet, eating too many Omega-6 fatty acids and consumption of trans-fats) and wastes and toxins in your blood.  

4. You should use polyunsaturated oils and margarine

This is actually an extension of #1 above. 

Since saturated fats are falsely implicated in heart disease, of course this gives food companies an excellent opportunity to market “heart healthy” oils and margarine.

What the average person doesn’t realize is that when you use these products, you’re getting loaded with trans-fats!

You see, whenever a polyunsaturated oil is heated, trans-fats are created. 

So when you use vegetable oils like safflower, sunflower, soybean, corn or canola oil in cooking, the moment you dump it in the frying pan and heat it up, voila, you have created artery-clogging trans-fats.

And margarine is the really sneaky one here because so many are marketed as “trans-fat free!”

But margarine is made with polyunsaturated oils, and during the manufacturing process, the oils are always heated.

So margarine is loaded with trans-fats, regardless of what the label says.

5. Sugar-free foods are good for dieting

I can’t tell you how many times I have seen a very overweight or obese person drinking Diet Pepsi.

See anything wrong with that picture?

The fact is, the sweetening substances that are used in sugar-free foods–like Splenda (sucralose) and Equal or NutraSweet (aspartame)–may have zero calories, but your body isn’t fooled.

When it gets a tease of a “sweet” taste, it expects calories to follow.

And when this doesn’t occur that leads to distortions in your biochemistry that actually lead to weight GAIN as well as increase your cravings for sweets.

6. “My Plate” is good diet advice

Give me a break

“My Plate” is the re-creation of the 1992 Food Pyramid, which instructed people to eat 6-11 servings of bread, cereal, rice and pasta each day.

This flood of refined carbohydrates is the exact OPPOSITE of what most people need to stay healthy!  They turn to nothing but sugar in your body, pack on the pounds, create a harmful flora imbalance in your gut and put out the welcome mat for Type 2 diabetes to come calling.

My Plate has downplayed grains as the most important dietary group and made vegetables the largest “plate section,” but it still strongly pushes grains and lacks any plausible advice on healthy fat consumption.

Let’s put it this way–if the “Food Pyramid” and now “My Plate” was good advice, why are two-thirds of us fat or obese?

Real straightforward diet advice

Now that you know the truth behind the Six Deadly Nutrition Lies, let me give you some REAL diet advice.

If you really want to help prevent disease, achieve and maintain a healthy bodyweight, and quite possibly lead a medication-free existence, here are 3 effective strategies that can help you enhance YOUR health from head to toe:

1- Eat real (not processed) foods & encourage good digestion

Having a diet of real (not processed) foods is the single biggest bang for your buck when it comes to great health.

First of all, when your diet is comprised mainly of real foods, the trans-fats found in processed foods become a non-issue for you.  

Secondly, you’ll be getting good sources of crucial antioxidants to help fight any existing health-destroying free radicals you may have cruising around.

You’ll also get natural sources of crucial nutrients which can help prevent disease and deficiencies, as well as strengthen your precious immune system!

And when you have a healthy diet and good digestion, this helps minimize waste accumulation in your blood, which cuts off a major source of inflammation!

 

 2- Balance your intestinal flora

The friendly flora in your gut helps your body digest certain foods and fibers and keeps your gut wall healthy–both of which are essential for proper nutrient absorption and feelings of satiety.

Plus they make up about 70% of your immune system to boot!

Problem is, people who have had a typical diet of fast food, boxed creations, soda and lots of sugary refined carbs have fed the harmful bacteria in their guts while the good guys starve…and are likely looking at a serious imbalance as a result.

And even if you’ve had a fairly decent diet, other factors like medication use (especially antacids and antibiotics), stress and lack of sleep can make your gut flora topsy-turvy

In addition to eating nourishing foods that feed your friendly flora, the best way to restore a proper flora balance is with probiotic supplementation.

3- Get enough of Nature’s anti-inflammatory–Omega-3 EFAs

Omega-3 essential fatty acids have shown to be an important tool to help enhance health in these 4 ways:

  1. They’ve been medically PROVEN to help lower blood pressure. Studies show that daily fish oil supplementation alone can lower your systolic (the top number) pressure by five points or more and your diastolic (the bottom number) pressure by three points or more!
  2. Omega-3 EFAs have anti-inflammatory properties, which may help counteract any inflammation you might have building up in your arteries and joints.
  3. They also help keep clots from forming by reducing the stickiness in your platelets and curbing the production of the fibrinogens which are part of clogged arteries.
  4.
